Bread line

Powell Street Vancouver 1967
June 1967 — Powell Street in Vancouver is the city’s original skid road and every day in 1967, as they still do today and had since 1926, men lined up around the block to receive sandwiches from the Franciscan Sisters of Atonement‎. This picture and the ones from the previous day were taken as part of a photography course from Jim Breukelman at the Vancouver School of Art. When Jim saw this picture he asked if there was any danger of the men objecting to having their picture taken and then trying to rough me up. I assumed the men had waited a long time in that line and they weren’t going to leave it and lose their place to bother me so I felt no danger.
