June 1967 — Powell Street in Vancouver is the city’s original skid road and every morning during the 1960’s about 6am the paddy wagon drove through picking up drunks passed out on the street and taking them to the drunk tank to sober up. It was always a bit of theatre, with lively dialogue and some comedy, with both sides having respect for the other.
