June 1976 — Brockton Oval — I asked the officials at a track and field meet if I could place a camera with a fish eye lens under the bar of the pole vault. While they were discussing if this was possible I went over to the next competitor, John Winters, and asked if I what I was planning to do was OK with him and since he had no problems with it I stuck a camera right next to the pit and strung a line to the side so I could trip the shutter. The vaulter made his attempt, missed, and the young boy scout in the centre caught the falling pole. I removed my camera and went over to the officials who had finally made their decision which was that it was far too dangerous to place a camera next to the box. I said, OK, no problem, maybe next time. It would have interesting to have heard what they said when the picture appeared in the paper the next day.
