Gary Beck drag racer burnout
April 25th, 1974 — To publicize a very big drag racing event at Mission Raceway, about 60 miles east of Vancouver, Gary Beck from Edmonton, then one of the top drag racers in the world, did a burn out with his AA Fuel dragster in the parking lot of the Bayshore Inn in downtown Vancouver. If the engine had exploded, which they often did in drag cars back then, most of the media in Vancouver would have been wiped out. The amount of insurance needed to pull off a stunt like this today would make it prohibitive.
