The top photograph was taken by my uncle in 1937 during construction of the Lions Gate Bridge in Vancouver. It’s a classic “man working” picture dominated by men on their hands and knees finishing concrete. The bottom picture was taken in 2006, also in Vancouver, but it’s a picture of machines as the men working are few and they are mostly standing, checking, measuring; making sure the machines did their job correctly.
