January 1st, 2015 — For most, the polar bear swim in Vancouver’s English Bay is a few brief moments of torturous cold followed by a quick sprint back across the sand to warm clothes while wearing a facial expression only a newspaper photographer can love. Like the man above. For others it’s just another excuse to have their picture taken by friends with a cel phone or even worse to take a selfie. These are not good pictures for newspaper photographers; not even ex newspaper photographers.
